The site is to the North of Kirkton of Kingoldrum, a charming village which lies at the foot of Glenisla, one of the best known of the Angus Glens, which sits on the southern edge of the Grampian Mountains. The most westerly of the five Angus Glens, Glenisla is the only one where the road exits to the North, as well as the south, so you can drive through the Grampian hills to Braemar and Deeside.
Much of the surrounding land comprises traditional estates and this part of Scotland is famed for its sporting pursuits. Fishing is available on the Rivers Ericht, Isla and Tay whilst low and high ground shooting can be taken locally. In addition there is loch fishing at Lintrathen, which also boasts an award winning restaurant. Ski-ing is a major attraction at nearby Glenshee. There are numerous golf courses in the area including three at Alyth, together with the famous Rosemount course at Blairgowrie.
As well as being most attractive, the area benefits from good communications to Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The A94 to the south links to Perth and Forfar and from Perth the M90 motorway links to Edinburgh. The A90 dual carriageway (Dundee to Aberdeen) is also easily reached from Kirriemuir. Dundee and Perth have mainline ra lway stations with regular services to the south including a sleeper service.
Local shopping can be found in Kirriemuir and Alyth, with Forfar and Blairgowrie providing more extensive facilities. Dundee and Perth, which are both within easy driving distance, provide all the services expected of major cities. There are primary schools at Lintrathen and Airlie, with secondary schooling at Webster’s High School in Kirriemuir. Private schooling is available at Dundee High School. |
